I'm barely learning how to bake, so I'm not quite sure what I did wrong when attempting to make Kenny's Cinnamon Bun Scones.  I followed the recipe and although they looked pretty, they were not very tasty because they mainly tasted like flour and they were a little dry.  My glaze was also a clear color rather than a white frost like color.  If someone could give me some tips, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Marisa

Hi Marisa,

This is Diana from Diana's Desserts website. Welcome to the Discussion Forum.

I'm sorry it took so long for me to answer you, but I've been quite busy.

First of all, how did you measure your flour?

To measure flour accurately, you need to first of all "aerate" it. This bascially means to sift it or to take a spoon or fork and mix or fluff it up in it's bag or container before measuring it. Then, with a spoon or scoop, sprinkle it into your measuring cup. Do NOT pack the flour into the measuring cup, just sprinkle it in, and then even the top off with the backside of a dull knife.

One of your problems may be that you are using too much flour, so "aerating or sifting" it, and measuring it in the correct way make really help you out.

As far as the problem with your glaze, I would suggest sifting your confectioner's sugar first, and then measuring it like you would meausre the flour as stated above. You may need more or less confectioners' sugar. It's a trial and error type of thing, or you may need to use more or less milk.

Oh, by the way, what type of sugar did you use for the glaze? You must use powdered sugar (also called confectioners'sugar). This could be your problem if you used regular granulated sugar instead of confectioners' sugar.

Please let me know how things turn out the next time you bake something measuring the flour the way I stated above.

Sincerely, Diana
