Hi! I am 68 years old. When I was in elementary school, I lived in Minden, La. I well remember eating the cho-cho ice cream bar. My husband and I were sitting in the den listening to Rush and he said wouldn't you just love a cho-cho? Why don't you look on the internet and see if anyone else knows anything about them. AND I got this website. Do any of you know of a place in La. that sells them?
Brings back many, many memories!!!!

I also received a call from the Manager at Schells and he told me the same thing.
By the way, I am not from Reading, TX? I am originally from Reading, PA but now reside in Schertz, TX (right outside San Antonio) for the last 25 years. But I still miss PA, especially in the summer and fall, it can get brutal in this heat and there is not much color when fall arrives! And, the worst is that there are no Cho Cho's to eat!
I believe my only problem with having Cho Cho's shipped will be the Texas Heat melting them before I can eat one! Yesterday it was up to 100 degrees!
Anyway, I'll have to at least try once to have them shipped, probably during the winter when it is a little cooler.

I have just received a telephone call from Schells Dairy Swirl in PA. He is meeting with a firm tomorrow to discuss packaging and mailing Cho Cho's. He wanted me to know he didn't forget my calls. Also, I received a call from Don, from PA, a very nice guy, who has replied to Diana's, and he has offered to send them to me. So, hopefully, soon, we will know whether they taste like the 1950's version. Schells said they also received a call from Reading, TX, I think. So, maybe the end of the tunnel is close. I'll keep in touch. Hopefully, if they are, Schell will be in the Mail Order Business of selling Cho Chos. And it is all because of Diana's Desserts web site and our memories.

Oh Tom from the Mission I fear, you will be disappointed. I grew up in the Sunset, went to Saint Anne's and I worked at the Irving Theater. Ah, you will love this...we melted Challenge Butter for the popcorn too. Double Features...yay San Francisco and Flicks memories.

I just visited Powell's Sweet Shoppe web site and they do have Flick's. There is a story about Flicks in their Story Section. There locations are also listed. There goes my diet.

On Main Street in Guerneville there is a 5 & Dime store that sells some of the old candies. In Windsor, CA in their new town square there is a Powells that has tons of old fashion candies, They also have other stores in Sonoma County. Going to the movies on Saturday morning after Catechism with a bag of juju beads was the best. Flicks were good, after you finished the tube, you could shoot wads of paper with it around the show.

Yes, Flicks were our movie favs. My sister worked for Ghiradelli and they told her that the original Flicks were so difficult to make and ship that they discontinued them. I think they outsourced them and they didn't take off. Duh.
I don't remember the Australian. But I do remember there was a Cherry sort of version of the Mountain Bar. My sister remembers all of this kind of stuff I am going to send her this blog...it is a kick.

Hey Mimi,
I remember Flicks - didn't Ghiradelli make them? They came in green and red tubes. I remember when SF bay area introduced the 'cherry ripe' bar from Australia in the early 80's; they stopped shipping them not long after; don't know why they were 'food of the gods' - cherry flavored coconut, bits of maraschino cherry enrobed in dark chocolate. I'll be migrating there eventually within the year and will have my fill of them then I'm sure.

rene- Muhlenberg Dairy is off of Rt 61 near "Clover Farms" I used to get them there. They are the one who changed to the "Rocket" or push up type cylinder and they are not as good as Schells. For those who wanna try Schells E me direct at pdhillbish@yahoo.com and I will investigate onernight shipping with dry Ice.
I stop at Schells weekly and the Mgr says he didn't get chance to check into shipping cost yet. They sell their cho-cups "CHO CHO's" for about $9.99 a dozen.
