  Hi,
I've a oats cookies recipe. The oats stated in the recipe is called 'porridge oats'. Is it the same as those instant porridge oats? If not, how do I identify what type of oats to use.

  Hi Dolphin,

Porridge Oats are not instant oats. They are oats that are chopped. They sometimes go under the names of Irish Steel Cut Oats or Scottish Oats. They are regular oats, opposed to oatmeal. You can usually find them in your supermarket where the oatmeal is, in the cereal aisle, or sometimes they are sold in bulk (in a bin). You may substitute them with "rolled oats" if you can't find just plain "oats".

Hope this information helps you out.
