  Hi Nooshy,

The flavor of pandan is similar to vanilla, but has a bit of a nutty taste.

It is wonderful used in cakes and puddings, etc.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely, Diana

  Hi

I'd say Pandan (or screwpine) has a aromatic flavor, kinda like vanilla but i find it more coconutty-like Smile

Thanks all for Any Know-How Smile

Hi there, Pandan is the name of a screwpine leaf that grows in the tropics, the flavour and colouring is obtained from grinding the leaves with a little water. It is truly aromatic, something like natural vanilla, but is nothing like the bottled essence which tries very hard to capture the flavour but tastes so artificial.  This is used in many local Malay and Nonya kuehs and pandon chiffon cakes, Thai pandan chicken and also in chinese cooking for desserts (eg. sweet potato, cheng tng etc, where we boil the leaves in water to extract the aroma. To see what it looks like - you can do a search in yahoo and take a look at the picture.  Hope this helps.
