Grandma's Apple Pie

Servings: 8
Comments:
This is my grandma's best apple pie recipe, I have even succesfully made it a couple times! But not as good as grandma's....Leila Clark

Ingredients:
For Pie Crust:
1/2 cup (1 stick/4 oz./113g) butter
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup cold water

For Filling:
8 tart apples, sliced or diced
1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1-2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1-2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon cornstarch
Pinch of salt

Instructions:
For Crust:
In a large mixing bowl, with a pastry cutter, mix flour, sugar and butter together until crumbly. Add in water, one teaspoon at a time, until you achieve a firm dough. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Take half of dough, roll it into a 12 inch circle (1/8 inch thick), and place it into a 9-inch pie plate, trim the edges. Then do the same to the other half of dough and set aside.

For Filling:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F/200 degrees C.

Peel and slice the apples, set aside. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch and salt. Mix in apples and toss until all the pieces have been covered with the dry ingredients. Spoon mixture into the pie crust, cover with the top crust and seal the edges. Use a sharp knife and make 5 holes or slits in top crust. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until juice starts to bubble through the holes. Cool and serve.

Makes 8 servings.
