Chocolate Buttercream Icing

Servings: Makes about 1 3/4 cups icing
6 ounces semisweet chocolate
2 tbsp. unsalted butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/8 tsp. salt
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/3 cup milk, or as needed

Melt the chocolate in top of a double boiler over simmering water until completely melted. Add butter, vanilla and salt. Mix with the sugar, beat hard with a wooden spoon, adding milk until icing becomes thick and is of good spreading consistency.

Makes about 1 3/4 cups, enough to ice a 9-inch layer cake.
