These cookies are very easy to make and good for kids to help with. Also, good for cookie swaps. The Kris Kringle Cookies are a Christmas thing in our family but they are great as an everyday treat as well, they freeze and travel well.

Ingredients:
For Cookie Dough:
2 cups (1 lb./4 sticks) butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. baking soda

For Decoration: (use a combination of these colored sugars and sprinkles or use just one)
Granulated or Powdered sugar
Colored Sugar
Colored Sprinkles

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 C). Grease cookie sheets.

Cream the softened butter with the sugar. Beat in eggs.

Combine flour, cream of tartar and baking soda; blend gradually into creamed mixture.

Shape dough into 3/4 inch balls, dip one end of each ball in colored sugar and place (sugar side up) 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.

Bake in 350 degree F (180 C) oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are slightly browned. (cookies will flatten during baking). Cool slightly before removing from baking sheets, then cool completely on wire racks. Dip in colored sprinkles if desired. Store cookies in airtight container.

Makes approximately 8 dozen cookies.

I wanted a cookie to send to two friends that are serving in Iraq. Not only did they arrive unbroken, but I have had requests for more cookies. I was pleased that the recipe made so many I just gave each soldier 4 dozen.

We made a batch for our Library Kids - decorated them with gumdrops and they were excellent. Good, and easy to follow recipe. This is a keeper!

The cookies melted together into one big mess. They were so greasy, I can't understand who could eat these. Very disappointed.
