Tufahije - Nut Filled Apples

This dessert is very popular in Bosnia and has oriental origin. Like most oriental desserts it is very sweet, simple and inexpensive.

My sister chose to make this dessert for her American hosts when she was in Dayton, Ohio. They liked it very much and I hope others will find it delicious and enjoy in it's rich flavor.

Ingredients:
6 apples
400ml water
1 tsp. lemon juice
400g granulated sugar
100g ground walnuts
50g ground hazelnuts
Lemon zest
10g cinnamon-sugar
1 tsp. milk

Garnish: (optional)
Whipped cream
6 candied cherries

Instructions:
Peel and core apples. Cook apples in water, lemon juice and sugar until they become tender but still firm, for about 15 minutes. Carefully take out apples and leave them to cool. Reserve syrup.

Mix ground walnuts, ground hazelnuts, lemon zest and cinnamon-sugar with the 1 tsp. milk. Fill cooled apples with this mixture. Pour syrup over them and garnish with whipped cream and candied cherries.

Serve dessert in dessert cups.

Makes 6 servings.

This is what I'm making because I've had the craving for Tufahije for the past three weeks now. My aunts in Bosnia used to make it. Very Good.

Is a beautiful oriental dish. We have just made it now. it is mouthwatering. The texture is simple, soft and melts inside your mouth. You can feel the teats and scent of it. I recommend it to everyone to try it. It is simple to make.
