Comments: This is the "white cake" version of the famous Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake. I think you'll really enjoy it. Great for kid's birthdays, etc. A very versatile cake. |
Ingredients: Cake: 1 cup (2 sticks/8 oz./226g) butter, cubed 1 cup water 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 cups granulated sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1/2 cup dairy sour cream 1 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt Frosting: 1/2 cup (1 stick/4 oz./113g) butter 1/4 cup milk 4 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar 1/2 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional) |
Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F/190 degrees C. Grease a 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking pan. 2. In a large saucepan, bring butter and water to a boil. Remove from the heat; stir in the flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, almond extract, baking soda and salt until smooth. 3. Pour batter into prepared baking pan. Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean and cake is golden brown. Cool cake for 20 minutes. 4. For Frosting: In a large saucepan, combine butter and milk. Bring to a boil. Remove from the heat; stir in sugar and extract. Stir in walnuts (if using); spread over warm cake. Makes 16 servings. |
