A blend of three different types of apples give this baked applesauce a distinctive and delicious taste. Served warm, it makes a great comfort food on a chilly day.

Ingredients:
Juice and zest from 1 orange
Juice and zest from 1 lemon
3 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, quartered
1 1/2 pounds Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored, quartered
1 1/2 pounds Fuji apples, peeled, cored and quartered
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, cut into small pieces
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:
Grate peel of orange and lemon. Place both grated zests in a 3-quart glass or non-corrosive casserole with cover. Squeeze juice from orange and lemon; add to grated peel in casserole. Add apples, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss to combine. Cover with casserole lid. Bake in preheated 350 degree F/180 degree C oven for 90 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand covered 30 minutes. Carefully remove lid. Stir to break up apples. Stir in sugar. Serve warm or refrigerate, covered, several hours before serving.

Makes 12 servings.

It was requested that I make applesauce for Christmas dinner. This recipe was delicious, and I don't usually like applesauce. There were many compliments from the guests.
