This was my first ever cake, and I was baking it for Christmas (everyone has cake for Christmas here in Japan), so I was pretty nervous and gave myself rather slim odds at pulling it off. To my pleasant surprise and the delight of my family, I not only made the darn thing, but it was SUPERB! What a great recipe!

This cake was fabulous!! I took the advice of another reviewer and made a chocolate fudge cake instead ....it was absolutely delicious and worth the effort. My Dad thought he was really special when I made it for his Birthday. The ingredients add up...I guestimated around $24.00 to make the cake so take that into consideration when costs may be an issue.

The cake ended up tasting great, but it wasn't worth the time and effort. I would suggest buying a boxed chocolate cake and only make the "raspberry bavarian" part of the recipe. Then layer the cake and bavarian cream as instructed and let set for several hours. Tastes just as good and about half the effort, time, money, and clean-up.
