Comments: This is a cake for kids and adults. The kids will love the brownie texture, and the pears are an added bonus to get those fruits in their diet. A very tasty cake that will have them coming back for seconds. |
Ingredients: 1 cup butter, melted 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 6 1/2 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped 3/4 cup chopped walnuts 1 can pear halves, drained 10 walnut halves (optional) |
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly butter an 8-inch round cake pan and line with parchment or waxed (greaseproof) paper. Mix together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, cocoa, vanilla, and flour. Stir in the chocolate and chopped walnuts, mixing well. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Arrange the pears, cut sides down, on top of the mixture. Place the walnut halves between the pears, if using. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack before turning out and serving. This cake can be served warm or cold. Makes 10 servings. |

This is a very easy foolproof cake that I have made many times. It is definitely an excellent cake to make when you have dinner guests. My children and husband also love it.
