Servings: Approximately 9 1/2 dozen cookies

Comments:
These will remind you of those sweet candies that you always loved as a child and now your kids will be able to enjoy not only the candy but now also the cookie version (well, the cookie version has chocolate in it, but who doesn't like chocolate). Bake some up for Halloween. Put several in little Halloween decoarative paper bags and give them out when the "trick or treaters" drop by.

Ingredients:
1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix
1/3 cup (0.6 stick/2.4 oz./68g) butter or margarine, melted
1 egg
Orange paste food color
2 oz. semisweet chocolate, melted, cooled

Instructions:
1. Line a 8 x 4-inch loaf pan with waxed paper, extending paper over sides of pan. In medium bowl, stir cookie mix, butter and egg until soft dough forms.

2. On work surface, place 3/4 cup dough. Knead desired amount of orange food color into dough until color is uniform. Press dough evenly in bottom of pan.

3. Divide remaining dough in half. Gently press one half of remaining dough into pan on top of orange dough. On work surface, knead chocolate into remaining dough until color is uniform. Press over plain dough in pan, pressing gently to edge of pan. Refrigerate 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until firm.

4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F/190 degrees C. Remove dough from pan. Cut crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Cut each slice into 5 wedges. On ungreased cookie sheet, place wedges 1 inch apart.

5. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are set and edges are very light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely. Store in tightly covered container.

Makes 9 1/2 dozen cookies.

I just finished baking these, so thought I would post a review before I forgot to do it. If you make the recipe as written, you will have very small cookies. If I were to make these again, I would double the recipe and use the same size pan. The cookies then would be a nice size and not bite-sized. They look really cute and taste fine. I also used red and yellow food coloring to make orange (followed the directions on the box) and not the paste because I didn't have time to look for it. Very cute idea for Halloween.

It's a fun and simple thing, make sure you read Marha's review it help'd me a ton. And a suggestion is to cut them after you refridgerate them and refridgerate them again for 10 minutes so that they stay ferm. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU PUT THEM 1 INCH apart, I didnt and they came out like ovals :p But all in all they are a easy little snack. I used yellow, and red food coloring to make the orange color. I turnd the batter completely yellow then added the red gradually till I got the color I wanted. It took me all after noon but then again I didnt do it all at once.

I LOVE this recipe and idea! I make several batches every Halloween. I too use red and yellow food coloring. I do keep mine the bite size just like the recipe because then I get Halloween (usually candy corn decored) containers and fill them with these cookies and send them to friends and family. They love it!

Just finished a batch and love that they are bite size. Perfect for Spooky Story night at school tomorrow night. The bite size makes for little waste when little hands feel they have to have one in each hand. LOVE IT!!
